Professional growth · 3 minute read
Make room for your next chapter.
Three prompts to help turn a broad ambition into a useful conversation.
Name what you want to learn.
Professional growth can feel too broad to act on. Start with one area you want to understand better: a leadership responsibility, a business question or a skill you would like to strengthen. A specific learning goal is easier to discuss than a complete career plan.
Consider the perspective you need.
Think about who might see that question differently. It could be a peer working through the same issue or someone whose experience is different from yours. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting the conversation.
Choose one next step.
Write a question, identify a resource or send a thoughtful introduction. Choose a step small enough to complete and clear enough to learn from.
- The question I am carrying is…
- A perspective that could help is…
- The next conversation I want to start is…
Return to your question.
After a conversation or event, revisit what you wrote. Notice what became clearer and what still needs exploration. Your next chapter can develop through a series of considered steps.
